Foreign airlines restricted to protect Myanmar carriers

Foreign airlines are barred from operating in Myanmar to protect domestic companies according to the Minister of Transport. 
Nyan Tun, Myanmar's Minister of Transport told Eleven Media that domestic airlines will face a loss if they are to compete against international airlines. The Minister was attending the World Economic Forum recently concluded in Nay Pyi Taw on June 7. 
"Foreign businessmen want to invest in the domestic air transport. However, they are not allowed yet because our domestic airlines will suffer loss if they offer lower than the current prices," said the Minister.
Myanmar's airline industry is likely to benefit from a Tourism Master Plan which will receive a $500million loan from the Asian Development Bank and Norway, according to the Ministry of Hotel and Tourism at the World Economic Forum on East Asia.
