Myanmar President Thein Sein will deliver speeches at the School of Advanced International Studies of Johns Hopkins University and the United States Chamber of Commerce on May 20 during his state visit to the US, both institutions stated in their news releases.
Thein Sein will pay a working visit to the United States at the invitation of President Obama, according to a news release of the state information group of Myanmar on Monday.
He will be the first president of Myanmar to visit Washington since Ne Win, chairman of the Revolution Council government, visited the US in 1966 at the invitation of President Lyndon Johnson.
The US administration has applauded Thein Sein for his reiterating united and peaceful coexistence of all the people in Myanmar despite the Human Rights Watch's report accusing Myanmar of genocide against Rohingya.
Last September, Thein Sein visited the US to attend the UN General Assembly and held talks separately with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Obama also visited Myanmar in November last year as a move to encourage democracy. He was the first US president to visit Myanmar.
The US is lifting its sanctions against Myanmar step by step in response to her social, political and economic reforms that Thein Sein's government have made since 2011.
During Obama's presidency, the US has changed its policy of relationship with Myanmar and adopted a contact-to-contact approach.
The US-Myanmar diplomatic ties were established in 1947.
