South Africa based multinational mobile telecommunications company, MTN Group, is seeking to acquire an operator license from Myanmar Posts and Telecommunication (MPT), MTN Chief Marketing Officer Mr. Taukobong said in a press conference held yesterday.
He also said if MTN is selected as operator, the company will provide technical assistance to other sectors such as education, social and other sectors as well as communication sector.
MTN is cooperating with local based company, Amara Communication Company which is owned by Nay Aung, a business tycoon from former government era, to apply telecommunication provider license.
MTN is currently operating in 22 countries including many African, European and Middle Eastern countries.
Moreover Myanmar communication sector is similarly with that of South Africa happened about five years ago. MTN has many experiences in that situation and can provide assistance to change quickly for Myanmar ICT development, he added.
If MTN has been chosen as operator, they will target online payment system using 3G and Wi Fi from mobile phones. Their investment will depend upon the kind of business as operator and construct basic infrastructure in negotiating with government ministries.
The overseas telecomm service provider companies are attracting using many ways including offering assistance and marketing to win over operating license.
In addition, the companies who are competing for operator license need to submit about the services and how to make investment in their applications to MPT in June 3 the latest and MPT will choose two operators to finalize in June 27.
