Japanese media outlet Kyodo News opened its bureau in Yangon, the country’s commercial city, Thursday, The Global Post reported.
Kyodo News President Satoshi Ishikawa, Japanese Ambassador Mikio Numata and Myanmar government and political figures attended the opening ceremony at Chatrium Hotel.
The agency wants “to play an important role as a bridge between Myanmar and Japan”, the president said.
Another Japanese media firm NHK and US news agency Associated Press have got go-aheads to open bureaus in Yangon.
